  • What is the Thornton Outreach Program?
    • The Thornton Outreach Program is a non-profit organization providing low to no cost music instruction to schools within a 4-block radius of both USC campuses.

 

  • How do I get involved?
    • Current USC music students attend a meeting in August, at the beginning of the school year, where they obtain information about all possible positions available and interviewing. The Outreach Program provides training and support for all students hired.

 

  • Are there paid positions in the Thornton Outreach Program?
    • All students hired to work for the Thornton Outreach Program are compensated for their time spent teaching/working.

 

  • Do I need teaching experience in order to join the Thornton Outreach Program?
    • No prior teaching experience is necessary to apply. The Outreach Program provides all USC music students hired with all the support and training necessary to succeed in the path to “teacher”.

 

  • Are any office positions available?
    • A variety of jobs are available within Outreach. For more information, please contact the Program Administrator or attend the information meeting in August.

 

  • I don’t have enough time to commit to the program. How do I volunteer?
    • We welcome all volunteers! Contact the Program Administrator directly via email or phone call to find out how you may assist at events throughout the school year.

 

  • How do I get my school involved?
    • The Thornton Outreach Program serves schools within a 4 block radius of both USC campuses. Programming for the year is determined in August and September of each school year. Contact the Program Administrator to set up a meeting to discuss programming.

 

  • My son/daughter doesn’t attend a school near USC. Are there opportunities with the Thornton Outreach Program for him/her?
    • The Los Angeles Youth Jazz Ensemble holds auditions in September each year for high school students in the Los Angeles Area interested in joining a premier jazz ensemble.

 

  • I’m minoring in music at USC. Can I join the Thornton Outreach Program?
    • Absolutely! All students at USC majoring, minoring, or taking classes currently in the Thornton School of Music are welcome.

 

  • I didn’t know this program existed! Although it’s mid-year, can I be a part of the Thornton Outreach Program? How?
    • Due to changes in student schedules each semester, there is always a chance positions will open up in the Spring. Contact the Program Administrator to schedule an interview and discuss how you might become involved with Thornton Outreach.
